I've built my 2008 program and noticed that in the 2nd level Olympic template that I used, there are many swim workouts that give me an option of a Masters Workout OR an "Optional Distance" workout. But the "Optional Distance" workouts don't seem to have a distance or a time associated with them in the day view. When I navigate to the workouts page and look at the "Optional Distance" variation, I see it says 60 minutes as a time measure. What am I missing? What's that workout supposed to me? Thanks - I'm a new user and really like it so far. -C |

The "Optional Distance" workouts are actually variations of the "Continuous Swim" workouts. Sorry, didn't denote that very cleanly. |

Your query regarding the Continuous (optional distance) Swim is a valid one. When the Continuous Swim states a distance, the workout guideline is simple. One of the variants provided for the continuous swim, along with many distances and times, is "optional distance". Here the athlete may chose the appropriate distance for him or herself, then swim that distance as a "Continuous Swim". Reasons for a choice of swim distance may vary from 'fatigue level' to 'time available' to 'pool length'. I'll consider re-wording or clarifying the workout description or varient, in our next update.
Thanks and all the best with your training. CoachKev |

Thanks for the quick response. I of course see today, that I botched the question pretty solidly, it was really part of the Winter Base Training routine - but I see that you figured that out ;) So it's really just a "choose your own distance you're comfortable with" option. Got it. That's what I did, but thatnks for the consideration. -C |
