I try to open the software and get the following message:

"SelfCoach.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

I never get to launch the software.

Hi Brian,

I have also sent you an email to this effect:

Can you download the latest version from our website and see if it solves the problem:

http://purchase.eraceplanner.com/download/eraceplanner.exe

Your license and data will remain in place.

Also, what is the error message you get?

Let me know how you get on, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Regards,

Hi Brian,

The error you highlighted above is a standard windows error message and not one we use in eRacePlanner. It appears on the face of it that there may be an issue before eRacePlanner launches.

Try to re-install eRacePlanner and we will take it from there. Have you scanned for Viruses? Are all of your other applications working OK?

It couldbe a number of things, so we will have to take it one step at a time to try to get you up and running again.

I installed the update. I used the repair option. I also did a scan and everything is OK. I still get the error message: "SelfCoach.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". The program does not launch. Should I remove and re-install the software? What is "SelfCoach"? All other program are acting fine.

Hi Brian,

SelfCoach is the entry point for eRacePlanner, can you uninstall eRacePlanner and re-install the new version on the link I sent you, and see if that works.

I think a file has somehow become corrupt either to do with eRacePlanner or the .NET Framework. So if you un-install and then re-install the new version. If that does not do it we will have to look at doing the same with the .NET 2.0 Framework.

When you uninstall can you check that the C:/Program Files/Flexicoach/eRacePlanner folder only contains a .DLSC file (which relates to your license). If there are other files in there can you delete them................

The program isn't even getting as far as loading any of the data, or starting the actual program, that is why I think a file has become corrupt on your computer.

I take it you have been using the software since Decmber with no issues like this to date?

Regards,

Mike Read

I un-installed the software and the only file left was the .dlsc file. I then re-installed the new version and I still get the same error........

I have used the software after December.

OK, so that means the problem is not with the actual software as we ahve installed a 'clean' working version, and it's not a data error as it doesn't get that far.

On the 'Start' menu, can you select the 'Run' option and enter 'Eventvwr.msc' this will open up your event viewer. Under the application menu do you see any errors from around the times you try to open the software? (If so can you open them up and send me a copy of the error message)

The next logical issue would be with the Microsoft .Net 2.0 Framework which runs the application for the Operating System, you already had this installed when you bought the software. Do you know if any of your other programs use this? If so, do they still work?

This article is a good one to follow to 'repair' / 're-install the framework:

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2008/03/07/8108332.aspx

Have you recently Installed / Uninstalled any new software that could have caused this?

Mike

I had some window update and did those and you wouldn't believe what update it was? (Net Frame Update). Everything works fine now! Thanks for your help. It's nice to have someone there to help with issues!

Thanks Again!
